On Saturday, Melina, Bee, and I took the journey up north and did the PCKRR in Los Olivos. The women’s 1/2 field had roughly 20 women; the race consisted of 2 laps on rolling terrain with an uphill finish, and a total distance of 56 miles. By the end of the first lap, Melina was in a solid break of ~7women and Bee was holding strong in the field. Coming into the short kicker to the finish, the break was down to 5 and had a sizable lead. Melina timed her sprint perfectly and came up with the win! Bee held strong to finish in the field, and I unfortunately could not hang with the field over the rolling terrain. Great job to Melina and Bee for finishing the challenging rr in a strong field of women :)
The next day, the three of us suited up for the crit. The race was 45 minutes and the course was D-shaped, with a long drag to the finish line (into a headwind, of course). The race saw attacks from the gun and it never let up, but for only a couple times. The three of us took turns covering attacks and initiating them as well. I suffered a flat, but was able to take my free lap with 6 to go (Just in time!) and hop back in with a new wheel. On the last lap, I did my best to try and string out the field. Out of the last corner, Melina started her sprint. It was a long drag race and Anna Drakulich nipped her at the line. Awesome effort by Melina finishing second and Bee right there in 7th!
